The Cornwall Nationals, who were in last place in the FHL standings, were facing off against the first-place Hat Tricks. On paper, it seemed like an easy win for Danbury, but as they say, anything can happen in hockey. In a shocking turn of events, the Nationals came out on top with a 5-4 victory, handing the Hat Tricks their first loss on home ice. But the Hat Tricks weren’t just making waves in the FHL; they were also representing the league in the Commissioner’s Cup, a tournament between the FHL and the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). In a shortened 29-game season, they finished with a record of 20 wins and 9 losses, earning them a spot in the playoffs. In the semi-finals, they faced off against the Columbus River Dragons, who had finished the regular season with the best record in the FHL. In another stunning upset, the Hat Tricks swept the series in three games, advancing to the finals yet again.
The finals saw them facing off against the Elmira Enforcers, who had once again made it to the championship game. The series was a hard-fought battle, with both teams evenly matched and determined to take home the trophy.
