Led by head coach Darren Yopyk, they defeated the Kelowna Rockets (a rival team from the Western Hockey League) in the first round. Although they were eventually eliminated by the mighty Penticton Vees in the second round, the Warriors had already made a name for themselves as a resilient and competitive team.
Rising to the Top: BCHL Championship Win (2015-2016 season)
After several years of ups and downs, the Warriors finally reached the pinnacle of BCHL success in the 2015-2016 season. Led by captain Kyle Marino and a strong group of veteran players, the team finished second in the regular season standings and made their way to the league championship.
In an intense seven-game series against the Chilliwack Chiefs, the Warriors emerged victorious, winning their first-ever Fred Page Cup. They then went on to compete in the Western Canada Cup and clinched the victory, solidifying their spot in the Royal Bank Cup (also known as the National Junior A Championship).
Although they didn’t manage to win the ultimate prize at the National level, the Warriors had still achieved something monumental – becoming BCHL champions for the first time in their history.
The Underdogs: Defeating the First Place Victoria Grizzlies (2018-2019 season)
In the 2018-2019 season, the Warriors found themselves facing the top-ranked Victoria Grizzlies in the first round of the BCHL playoffs. The Grizzlies were a powerhouse team, having finished the regular season with an impressive record of 41-11-1-5.
Despite being the underdogs, the Warriors stunned the Grizzlies with a 4-1 series victory. Led by head coach Brandon West, the team played with grit and determination, showcasing their never-say-die attitude.
